Popular Grocery Chain To Open New Stores In 2025, Beyond: Here's Where

ROCHESTER, NY — Popular grocery store chain Wegmans Food Markets confirmed Friday plans to open a total of three stores this year, with one already open and two more scheduled to open this summer.

Additionally, the company has confirmed locations for more stores planned to open in the near future.

Wegmans Stores Opening In 2025

A Wegmans spokesperson said in an email Friday the company plans to open three new stores by the end of the year.

One of those store opened in Lake Grove, N.Y., in late February, adding to the dozens of Wegmans store locations in New York, according to the spokesperson.

Wegmans will next open a new store in Rockville, Md., on June 25, the company's ninth location in the state. The chain also operates stores in Bel Air, Columbia, Crofton, Frederick, Germantown, Hunt Valley, Owings Mills and Woodmore.

On July 23, Wegmans will open its first Connecticut store in Norwalk following years of anticipation by residents since the project was first announced back in 2022.

In April, Norwalk Store Manager Emily Gee told Patch there were only 100 positions left to fill at the new store, and the company would host hiring events to recruit employees for those roles.

"We're looking for people who have a passion for food and are eager to make a difference for our customers and the community," Gee said to Patch in April. "The ideal candidate also shares our core values of respect, caring and high standards. No experience in the grocery industry is necessary, as we can teach the right candidates all the other skills they need to thrive at Wegmans."

The 92,000-square-foot will employ approximately 500 people when it opens in July, according to Wegmans.

Gee said also said in April construction of the Norwalk store was progressing well, and work could be seen well underway at the construction site.

"The construction team is on track to turn over to the store team in early June so we can prepare for the grand opening on July 23," Gee said.

Future Store Locations

According to the spokesperson, Wegmans also plans to open a new store in Charlotte, N.C., in late 2026, however the company has not announced an exact opening date yet.

The Charlotte store will join a roster of four other Wegmans store locations in North Carolina: Chapel Hill, Raleigh, West Cary and Wake Forest.

The spokesperson also noted opening timelines have not yet been announced for planned stores in Holly Springs, N.C., and Pittsburgh, Pa., the latter of which will be the company's 20th location in Pennsylvania.

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is a regional supermarket chain with over 100 stores located along the East Coast. The family company, recognized as an industry leader and innovator, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016.

Wegmans has been named one of the "100 Best Companies to Work For" by FORTUNE magazine for 27 consecutive years, ranking #6 in 2024, according to the company.

Wegmans stores have a European open-air market look and feel, offering customers organic options and restaurant-quality prepared food, among other items, at low prices.
