Walmart Offering Free College Tuition For Employees Nationwide
The retail giant's "Live Better U" program for employees will be free beginning in mid-August.

ACROSS AMERICA — Walmart will soon begin offering free college tuition and books to its employees at stores nationwide, The Washington Post and others reported earlier this week.
It's a continuation of the retail giant's "Live Better U" education program, which since 2018 employees have had to pay $1 a day to participate. The program will be free beginning Aug. 16, Walmart officials told The Post and others.
“We are creating a path of opportunity for our associates to grow their careers at Walmart,” Lorraine Stomski, the company’s senior vice president of learning and leadership, said, according to The Post. “This investment is another way we can support our associates to pursue their passion and purpose while removing the barriers that too often keep adult working learners from obtaining degrees.”

Walmart plans to invest nearly $1 billion on the initiative over the next five years. The program is offered to all 1.5 million Walmart employees in the United States.
More than 52,000 employees across Walmart's 4,743 stores nationwide have participated in the education program since it began, with about 8,000 already having graduated.
