Some dads and their kids won't be spending Father's Day together this year, but not being in the same place doesn't mean a family can't celebrate together.
Thanks to the Ring Video Doorbell, dads can stay connected with their loved ones — and ensure their homes and families are safe — even when they're away. With the Ring Video Doorbell, you can get real-time notifications sent directly to your phone to alert you when there’s activity at your door.
Here are four real-life stories of dads who found clever, heartwarming ways to use the Ring Video Doorbell to connect with their loved ones.
Kids Send Sweet Messages To Military Dad Deployed Overseas
When Peter, a father of two from Forest Lake, Minnesota, was deployed overseas, his family's Ring Video Doorbell allowed him to keep up with the daily comings and goings at home.
Peter's daughter, Petroula, and son, Zerick, spoke to their dad through the doorbell every day while he was away, sending him messages of love and providing updates about things such as new haircuts, birthday parties and learning to ride a bike without training wheels.
"One of the awesome things that I looked forward to every day was that my kids would always send me a message using our Ring Doorbell about how their day went [and] things that are going on," Peter said.
"[It] definitely made me feel like I was always home," he said. "It's just being able to see the faces of my kids, [see what] they were wearing [and] what my wife's wearing, see who's coming to my house ... things like that."
"By far the most difficult thing [about being deployed]... is being gone from your family, being gone from the people you love," Peter said. "And to hear their voices, hear [them] say they love me and miss me, it was great."
Dancing Dad And Baby Daughter Record A Sweet Video For Mom
Giovanni often takes his baby daughter, Ava, on a walk through their Yonkers, New York, neighborhood as part of her pre-nap routine. One day, before heading out for the usual stroll, Giovanni showed off some smooth dance moves with baby Ava in front of the family's Ring Video Doorbell.
Ava's mom, Preeti, loves getting notifications on her phone with pleasant surprises like that. "It's always so exciting," she said. “You look on your phone and you expect to see something like the mailman dropping off a package, and then you get a nice little pleasant surprise and something that brings a smile to your day."
"I think it's been really cute," Preeti said. "They stopped by the front door to leave a surprise message for [me], just having some fun."
Preeti said with the Ring Video Doorbell, "I like seeing everything that's coming in and out and anyone at the door and it's super easy. It's on your phone. So you have it with you wherever you go. I love it."
"I think [the Ring Video Doorbell] is a great gift for anyone in any household," Preeti added, "but I think, [it's] especially [great] for those with kids who want to use [it] for this additional lens into their life. I think it can be really fun as kids start to see, like, they can go and record a video and see themselves on your phone later. It's a fun added element."
Ring Video Doorbell Helps Dad Keep Promise Of Telling His Daughter He Loves Her Every Day
When Hannah was born, her dad, Chuck, said he made a commitment "to tell her I love her and make sure that she knows that she's loved and kind of the center of my universe" every day of her life.
Hannah lived with her parents in Murray, Kentucky, all through college, and when she moved out to attend graduate school in Louisville, 3.5 hours away, her dad decided to use his Ring Video Doorbell to leave sweet daily messages that Hannah could watch as a Shared User on the account.
"I just thought that'd be a nice way, just kind of a little daily affirmation, just to say, 'Hey, hope you have a great day. I know you've got a test today, but you've got this ... I love you,'" Chuck explained. "So, that's just been my extension of the daily 'I love you,' even though she's 250 miles away."
Hannah said she likes that the Ring Video Doorbell allows her to "see what's going on around the house." She also thinks it provides "a fun way to communicate" with her father back at home.
"My dad has always made it a priority to make sure I know how much I am loved," Hannah said, "and now the Ring [Video Doorbell] gives him a new and unique way of doing that. ... [Watching the videos] makes me feel great, and it really does make me feel loved."
Son Brightens Dad's Day With A Goofy Dance
When Rowen's mom told him to say hi to his dad via the Ring Video Doorbell at their Hickory, North Carolina, home, the 9-year-old didn't just say hello: He did a funny dance!
"My husband received the video [through the Ring App on his phone] and literally laughed out loud to himself," said Rowen's mom, Amber. "He then sent it to family members and co-workers for a good laugh, which was successful ... You can't help but watch it and feel good."
Rowen's dad, Daniel, said he loves that with the Ring Video Doorbell, "[m]y family can get ahold of me, even when I'm [far away]," and he can make sure they're safe as well.
"I get notifications [of activity in front of the Ring Video Doorbell] when I'm away, and I'll check it wherever I'm at," Daniel said. "So whether it's a package or I hear the boys playing out in the front yard, or I get a goofy video from my oldest ... Being far away and knowing that they're here and they're OK ... it's very comforting."
