Since he could hold a newspaper or pick up a pen, Carl had a knack for the written word and was encouraged to write. When he left home to attend University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, Carl studied the craft of journalism and earned his bachelor's degree in print journalism. Throughout college he put his skills to the test and wrote for the UWM Post and a monthly community paper in Bay View. Carl most recently was a staff writer for The Waukesha Freeman and The Oconomowoc Enterprise.

Paul came to the US from Germany on Nov. 11, 1953. He graduated from Milwaukee Riverside High School and then proudly entered the US Marine Corps in 1964. He served time in Vietnam from 1966-67 and also spent time in Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines.
