Hi, my name is Derek! I live in the Des Moines area and am pleased to have the opportunity to help you connect with your community through this site. I work at the YMCA as well as here at Patch.com. My passion is helping people, especially mentoring young people. I also love music and sports, whether it's watching my Detroit Lions, coaching kindergarten through college basketball or directing the YMCA Capital City Summer Basketball League with Drake and Iowa State players.
