Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:
- A Delta flight going from JFK to LAX was diverted in Salt Lake City on Saturday due to mechanical issues while flying. According to a Salt Lake Airport representative, an air slide accidentally delayed inside the plane injuring a crew member who had to be transported to the hospital and has since been discharged. After arriving in Salt Lake, passengers were relocated to a secondary plane which landed at LAX later that evening. (KUTV)
- Salt Lake City Police seized numerous pieces of evidence after an overnight enhanced patrol in the city's entertainment district. Chief Mike Brown announced that the department will increase its footprint and enhance patrols on Market Street after a surge in gun violence was reported during a Public Safety briefing earlier last week. The announcement comes days after 22-year-old Halapaini Latu Moala was shot and killed in a nearby parking lot. (Fox 13)
- According to Salt Lake City Police, a body was found floating in the Surplus Canal early Saturday night. Fire personnel helped to retrieve the body from the canal around 9:00 p.m. and turned it over to the medical examiner who will work to determine the person's identity, manner, and cause of death. Law enforcement confirmed that the body showed no signs of suspicious trauma or foul play involved. (KUTV)

The beloved franchisor has seen significant growth this past year and is continuing an impressive trajectory of growth after signing a deal in Salt Lake. Overall, Paris Baguette hopes to sign 160 franchise agreements and open 64 new locations in 2023. (HJ News)
- Utah's Department of Transportation is hoping to receive public opinions before moving forward with possible improvements on Bangerter Highway. The organization projects these improvements will help to reduce the time it takes to travel from I-15 Draper to the Salt Lake City Airport by up to 20 minutes. Residents, commuters, and business owners are encouraged to share their feedback during a 45-day public commentary period. (ABC 4)
- Looking for a better way to get involved in the community and share your voice? The Salt Lake City Council is looking to fill Amy Fowler's seat after she resigned last month due to a DUI arrest.
