Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:
- This past Friday, the Salt Lake City Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and SWAT Team arrested wanted fugitive Zachary Forsberg. The departments originally attempted to arrest Forsberg around 3:50 p.m. for a reported domestic assault situation, but it is believed he left the neighborhood prior to officers' arrival. It was later learned that he was nearby in a Sandy hotel, and a bit before 7:00 p.m., negotiators reached out to him via video conference requesting he turns himself in safely; Forsberg ignored this request and barricaded himself in the hotel room. After receiving a search warrant, the SWAT Team broke into the room and arrested the fugitive without incident. Forsberg was booked in the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and will remain there as he awaits further charges along with the possibility of bail. (ABC4.com)
- Poet and spoken word artist Michaëlle Martial has created a space of creativity for herself and other Utah artists of color to gather in the Poetry on Main venue in Salt Lake City. Her new downtown venue is a gift shop as well as a coworking space and small performance venue that gives artists an opportunity to be highlighted and truly express themselves and show the talents they have. Each month, the space will feature a mix of ticketed and free events that you can register for online, such as meet-and-greets, open mic nights, and dinners. This past weekend, Poetry on Main hosted its first open mic focused on highlighting LGBTQ and BIPOC participants. (KSL.com)
- In nearby West Valley City, a 24-year-old man was killed by a 15-year-old who drove a reportedly-stolen car into a home. Adrian Hernandez-Rodriguez was visiting a neighbor whose mother was giving him food when he was tragically killed; in addition to the young man losing his life, the mother is also in the hospital with high blood pressure after witnessing such a tragedy. The 15-year-old was apprehended and taken to the hospital following the incident; he remains in the juvenile detention center facing multiple charges. (KSLTV)
