Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:
- The pandemic showed the world the need for more connective outdoor spaces which led to the Green Loop being created as the short-term project ahead of the larger scale goal of nearly 10,000 trees for a five-and-a-half mile pathway stretching through downtown. The added green space will be multi-purposeful, whether it is creating a family-friendly environment, more park space in the future, or even more space for dog owners to get out. The Green Loop's six weeks will end on Jun. 10. (KSLTV)
- A 45-year-old man was arrested on May 29 after allegedly confessing to sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl who may potentially be pregnant. The victim allegedly told forensic investigators that she was assaulted at least four times by this man and did not speak up because he threatened to kill her, she was told by a "healer" that she may possibly be pregnant The suspect has confessed to assaulting the victim multiple times dating back to December 2022 and he will be facing 12 first-degree felonies of rape and aggravated sexual abuse of a child. The identity of the suspect has been withheld from the public in order to protect the identity of the victim. (ABC4.com)
- The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources wants to shout out its crew of conservation officers, technicians, and partners for their hard work dedicated to inspecting over 8,500 boats and other watercraft throughout the state of Utah this past holiday weekend.
