Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:

  1. The Salt Lake Habitat for Humanity brought happiness to two international families last week by gifting them homes in its Field of Dreams community in Kearns. Out of over 300 applications received, the Kulomin and Eftin families were chosen as the first recipients and received their keys, marking a fresh start for them. As the program progresses, two more families will be selected on Jun. 14, with all eight families required to complete 225 hours of sweat equity before moving into their new homes. Additionally, four more families are anticipated to receive their homes in June, and by the end of 2024, the remaining 12 houses are expected to be completed. (KSL.com)
  2. The Salt Lake City police are currently conducting a search for the potential suspect/suspects involved in a fatal early morning shooting in downtown Salt Lake. Responding to multiple calls, officers arrived at a late-night business parking lot on 60 W. Market Street shortly after 4:00 a.m., finding the victim with a gunshot wound that resulted in his death. Interviews with witnesses are still underway to determine the circumstances leading to the incident, but it is believed to be an isolated event unrelated to the recent Pride festival activities. Two individuals were arrested at the scene for interfering with the crime scene and assault, leading to a strong emotional impact on the community, as many individuals present were acquainted with the victim. 3. A fire in a vacant building in downtown Salt Lake City forced multiple neighboring units to evacuate this past Saturday. It was reported that 55 units of the neighboring Randi Apartment buildings had to be evacuated for safety reasons. The primary focus of the fire crew was to protect the Apartments, prevent the vacant building from collapsing causing collateral damage, and contain the fire. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the event. (ABC 4 News)
