Family displaced after house fire in Salt Lake City (abc4.com) — A Salt Lake City family was displaced after a Saturday evening house fire on South Concord Street that heavily damaged their home and garage but caused no injuries. Fire crews closed part of Concord while extinguishing the blaze, and the American Red Cross is helping the family with temporary lodging as investigators work to determine the cause.
   

2. The whale, an iconic artwork in Salt Lake City, will soon look different. Here's why. (sltrib.com) — Salt Lake City’s beloved 9th and 9th whale sculpture is getting a fresh new mural, and local artists are being invited to help redefine the neighborhood icon. The Salt Lake City Arts Council is accepting applications from Salt Lake County artists through Jan. 2, with the updated design expected to debut by late summer 2026.
   

3. Utah trees blooming in December? His mother credits support from the area’s homeless community and local caregivers, and says the family is now focusing on healing and privacy after his return.

Utah's economy remains steadier than national trends; experts monitoring key sectors (kslnewsradio.com) — Salt Lake City business leaders say new federal data confirms Utah’s economy is holding steadier than the nation, with consumer sentiment far above the U.S. average. Experts at the Salt Lake Chamber and the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute are watching construction, tech, manufacturing, and a struggling tourism sector to gauge how secure that strength really is.
