Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:
- On Tuesday, Jun. 27, Utah will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of an important aerial maneuver with a special sky show. The U.S. Air Force and Utah Air National Guard are joining forces to perform flyovers across the state to honor the very first aerial refueling that took place back in 1923. These special aircrafts will fly over a variety of areas all over the state including the Utah State Capitol Building in Salt Lake. (FOX 13)
- After being accused of receiving $10 million in Paycheck Protection Program funds during the pandemic, Former Olympic speedskater Allison Baver stood trial yesterday in Salt Lake. According to reports, Baver applied for funds to bankroll an entertainment company that had no employees or payroll at the time she applied, but instead used the money to pay off HOA dues to stop her home from going into a planned foreclosure, pay for travel expenses, and more. Overall, the trial is expected to span over the course of five days. (Salt Lake Tribune)
- The Biden Administration announced on Monday that Utah will receive a $317.4 million grant to expand high-speed internet access across the state. The funding comes from a pool of $42.45 billion from the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment program that's included in Biden's initiative "Internet for All." For many years, Utah has struggled with statewide issues when it comes to providing affordable and high-speed internet access in a majority of its rural and tribal areas. (KSL)
