Here are the top three stories in Salt Lake City today:
- Salt Lake City is looking to make the streets a bit safer with the installation of speed bumps on 1300 South between 1700 East and Foothill Drive. The speed limit on this road is 24 miles per hour, but officials have noted that speeding happens very often on this road, and the stretch has been under review for a while — especially with the recent passing of a Bonneville Elementary School student who was fatally struck in a crosswalk last year. Although there has been a lot of support for the addition of speed bumps and elevated crosswalks, there have also been those opposing the action, with an online petition collecting over 600 signatures against it. Despite the opposition, the city plans to move forward quickly with the project. (KSLTV)
- According to Salt Lake City Animal Services, a coyote killed a dog near Tanner Park. Animal Services officials have released several tips on how to protect yourself and your pets from coyotes, as well as how to prevent them from coming on your property and what to do if you encounter one. If you encounter an aggressive coyote, contact Animal Services and authorities will be sent out to provide assistance that is not lethal to the animal. (ABC4.com)
- Local youth have been participating in the Mental Toughness Youth Summer Camp to build their self-confidence in sports and in life. In the camp, hosted by the RJ Performance Group based in Salt Lake City, young athletes are introduced to several different fun activities that provide real-life lessons. The next camp will be held from Jun. 26-29 at the Utah Aquatics Academy in South Jordan. (KSL.com)
