Here are the top three stories today in Salt Lake City:

  1. Utah's job market has witnessed an improvement, presenting teenagers with increased opportunities to join the workforce, particularly during summer break when they have more availability. With over 50 percent of Utah teens securing part-time jobs, both the economy and businesses benefit from their contributions, while teenagers gain additional income and valuable life and professional skills. Some teens enhance their employability through classes such as automotive or accounting, acquiring transferable skills applicable to various positions. (KUTV 2News)
  2. Salt Lake police apprehended Thomas John Lingle earlier this week after he tried to set fire to a Carl's Jr. restaurant as a result of being denied free food. The incident unfolded when Lingle visited the establishment on Redwood Road on Monday night but was refused. Returning the next evening, he demanded to see a manager but grew impatient and ignited garbage near the building, resulting in exterior damage. Lingle was arrested by officers at the scene, who also noted that he made additional threats toward the two employees involved during his departure.(KSL.com)
  3. This September Salt Lake City will be welcoming a large class of celebrities of all different walks with the 2023 FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention coming into town. The entertainers throughout the industry will be gathering the entire weekend to share their love of comics and pop culture. You can expect big names like Joel McHale, Mario Lopez, and Tony Danza who will be in attendance.   • The Salt Lake City School District wants to congratulate Kaitlyn Graciano, a virtual elementary student who won the Asynchronous Speech category at the Utah State Debate Competition. It was a clean sweep for SLVE students as Dante Jensen and Kale Christensen rounded out the top three finishers, congratulations to all three students. (Salt Lake City School District via Facebook)
  • Halfway through June, it is important to remind Utah residents that wildfire season has officially begun and it is even more important to exercise fire safety and be a bit more mindful in order to preserve and protect the environment. Up to 70 percent of wildfires can be prevented in the state by following simple precautions like keeping campfires in designated pits and dosing them appropriately and many other things.
