Here are the top three stories today in Salt Lake City:
- Utah's Department of Transportation (UDOT) announced they will no longer be displacing homes due to the widening of I-15. This announcement provides little relief to residents as many are still concerned the widening will still heavily impact them, but UDOT claims this project will make much-needed infrastructure updates in a vital traffic corridor for the northern part of the state. However, the department plans on finalizing its studies before launching a public comment period this upcoming fall. (Fox 13 Now)
- NeighborWorks' Paint Your Heart Out 2023 event is quickly approaching and applications for free exterior home painting are currently available. Each August, over 250 volunteers from a variety of local businesses, community organizations, and corporations gather to paint homes for those with disabilities, veterans, and homeowners who have limited income in the Salt Lake County area. If you're interested in learning more, visit here to apply. (NeighborWorks Salt Lake via Facebook)
- A motorcyclist was killed on Monday, Jun. 5 late in the evening after being involved in a crash with a vehicle in Salt Lake City. The police department confirms that 56-year-old Theodor Butcher was riding his motorcycle southbound near Second Street and 5600 West when he crashed into a northbound Tesla that made a U-turn. According to law enforcement, this crash was the fifth traffic-related fatality within the city this year. (KUTV)
