Here are the top three stories today in Salt Lake City:
- The Salt Lake City Police Department is notifying the public about road closures in preparation for the Utah Pride Festival and Parade, which is expected to attract around 150,000 attendees. The festival will be held at Washington Square in downtown Salt Lake City, resulting in road closures and reduced lanes of traffic near the City and County Building. The police department advises drivers to take precautions, consider alternative transportation options, and visit the Utah Pride website for more information. (KJZZ 14)
- Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson expressed that while relief from flooding concerns is expected in the coming weeks, it is important to remain vigilant and prioritize safety measures. Crews have been actively monitoring water flows, clearing debris, and taking preventive measures to mitigate flooding in various areas, and the mayors emphasized the need for public safety around water during this time. (ABC 4)
- Last month, Salt Lake City experienced its warmest May on record, with an average temperature of 67.2 degrees Fahrenheit, breaking the previous record set in 1934. The warm trend was a significant reversal from the cold start to the year, which saw below-normal temperatures. The weather pattern in May, characterized by high-pressure systems and moisture from the Pacific, contributed to the consistently warm temperatures throughout the month, and this pattern is expected to persist into the beginning of meteorological summer.
