Here are the top three stories in Burlington today:

  1. Burlington maple syrup producers have had a record year. According to the USDA, Vermont producers tallied 2.55 gallons of syrup this year — more than 800,000 gallons more than last year. This year's cold nights and gradual warmup lead to a season that was longer than normal. (NECN)
  2. Juneteenth is now an official city holiday for Burlington. Mayor Miro Weinberger made the announcement that the city will be observing the holiday for the first time on Jun. 19. Since Jun. 19 is a Sunday this year, the city will be observing the holiday on Monday, Jun. 20 with closed offices. (City of Burlington, VT (.gov))
  3. The replacement of Burlington's contaminated high school is significantly over the funding budget. The cost is $60 million higher than what the school district can reasonably afford. Toxic industrial chemicals closed the existing school in March 2021. The $60 million gap includes the cost of removing the existing building and remediation. (The Associated Press - en Español)
