Small Crane Falls on Canterbury Woods Elementary

A small crane fell onto part of the roof at Canterbury Woods Elementary School in Annandale on Tuesday morning.

A spokeswoman with the Fairfax County Fire Department said the crane fell while construction was underway at the school Tuesday morning.

The crane — which she noted was not the size of those commuters may see along the Beltway or in Tysons — hit the roof of the kitchen area of the school.

School staff was in the kitchen area when the crane fell, but there were no injuries, Fairfax County Public Schools spokesman John Torre said.

Officials have closed off the area, but the rest of the school is functioning as normal.

A structural engineer is enroute to the site to do an inspection, and a tow company has been called to upright the crane, the fire spokeswoman said.
