2 Planes Collide On Taxiway At Reagan National Airport
The wings of two American Airlines planes collided on a taxiway Thursday at Reagan National Airport, according to the FAA.
ARLINGTON, VA — The wings of two commercial airplanes touched Thursday afternoon on a taxiway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The wingtip of American Airlines Flight 5490 struck American Airlines Flight 4522 about 12:45 p.m., an FAA statement said. Flight 5490, a Bombardier CRJ900, was headed to Charleston International Airport in South Carolina.
Flight 4522, an Embraer E175, was headed to JFK International Airport in New York.

"There is no effect on flight operations at Reagan National Airport, as both aircraft have returned to gates," the Metropolitan Washington Airport Authority said in a statement to WJLA.
The FAA said it will investigate the incident.

Two members of Congress from New York posted on their X (formerly Twitter) accounts that they were involved in the mishap at Reagan National. Congressman Nick LaLota reported that everyone on the plane was OK after the impact.
Rep. Grace Meng said: "Glad my colleagues and I are okay! We are safely waiting on the tarmac, but we may need more snacks. I'm grateful no one was hurt today, but this incident underscores this urgent need restore all FAA jobs that keep our runways safe."
The latest airport mishap in the Washington, D.C., area comes less than a month after a breakdown of air traffic control communications in the moments leading up to a Delta passenger plane and Air Force jet narrowly avoiding a collision near Reagan National Airport last month, according to a report.
Officials said Delta flight 2983 was cleared for takeoff from Reagan Airport at 3:15 p.m. on March 28, the same time four U.S. Air Force T-38 Talons were inbound to Arlington National Cemetery for a flyover.
That close call happened a day after a 39-year-old employee from Maryland was arrested on suspicion of assault and battery after a fight in the Reagan Airport control tower, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority confirmed in a statement.
