ARLINGTON, VA — An Arlington man scratched his way to $500,000 from the Virginia Lottery with a scratch-off ticket he bought at a Falls Church service station.

Marquina was the first top-prize winner in Cash Fever, so there are two more top prizes out there. The game has prizes from $20 up to $500,000. The odds of winning a top prize like Marquina are 1 in 612,000.
Marquina, who bought the ticket at Euro Market Mobil at 6318 Leesburg Pike in Falls Church, told lottery officials that he and his wife hoped to use the winnings to buy a house.
Profits from the Virginia Lottery benefit K-12 education in Virginia. Arlington County, where Marquina lives, received $6.3 million in lottery funds for K-12 education the last fiscal year.
