The employee was arrested Thursday and charged with assault and battery, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

ARLINGTON, VA — An air traffic controller faces charges following a fight at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, according to officials.

Damon Marsalis Gaines, 39, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was arrested Thursday and charged with assault and battery, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority told Patch.

Authorities did not provide details about the incident that prompted Gaines's arrest.

“The employee is on administrative leave while we investigate the matter,” the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement to CNN.

The incident happened at an airport that is currently facing scrutiny since January's mid-air collision between an American Airlines flight and an Army Black Hawk helicopter. The day after the arrest, a Delta passenger plane and an Air Force jet narrowly avoided another crash as the jet was inbound to Arlington National Cemetery for a flyover.
