Alexandria Man Arrested On Weapons Charge In Lyon Park Robbery: Police

ARLINGTON, VA — A 60-year-old Alexandria man is facing a felony firearm charge in connection to a robbery at a Lyon Park business on Monday afternoon, according to authorities.

Arlington County police officers responded around 4:21 p.m. to a business in the 2700 block of Washington Boulevard to investigate the report of a robbery. They learned that a man entered the business and asked about some merchandise.

"As an employee was showing the suspect the items, he allegedly grabbed the merchandise from the employee’s hands and subsequently exited the store without payment," according to the incident report. "When confronted by another employee outside of the business, the suspect implied a weapon before fleeing the scene on foot with the stolen merchandise."

After broadcasting a lookout, the officers searched the area, but they were unable to locate the suspect, according to the report. However, the suspect was later taken into custody in Fairfax County and delivered to the Arlington police.

The suspect, identified as Sandy McDuffie of Alexandria, was arrested and charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to police. He was then held without bond.

On Tuesday morning, McDuffie was arraigned in Arlington General District Court and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 14, 2026, according to court records.

The robbery by force charge is a Class 5 felony. If McDuffie is convicted on this charge, he faces a possible sentence of one to 10 years in prison, or up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia.

The felon in possession of a weapon charge is a Class 6 felony, which is punishable by one to five years in prison, or up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500, under Virginia law.
