Arlington Nearly Dead Last In Snowfall In Eastern US

The D.C. area's snowfall totals are downright embarrassing, even when compared to cities in the South.

ARLINGTON, VA — It's almost the end of February, and this snow season has been a total bust. How big of a bust? Well, take a look at the chart at the bottom of this post from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

That's right, out of the 68 cities and regions in the Eastern United States included in the chart, Reagan National Airport in Arlington came in 65th place with just 3.3 inches. That was only good enough to beat out three cities in the Deep South that almost never see snow: Savannah, Ga.; Columbia, S.C.; and August, Ga.

Dulles Airport farther west did a little bitter with 6.6 inches, but that still was only good for 56th place. Baltimore-Washington International got 8.7 inches, which puts it at 50th place.

Surprisingly, we're still doing better than last winter, when we got just 1.4 inches of snow. But normal snowfall through Feb. 25 is 13.7 inches at Reagan, so we still missed the average by double digits.

As far as the biggest discrepancy between normal snowfall and actual snowfall, D.C. wasn't the worst. Charleston, W.V., normally gets 28.3 inches by this point in the season, but so far has just 10.3 inches.
