Arlington's Signature Theatre Lands 20 Helen Hayes Awards Nominations

Productions at the Signature Theatre in Arlington over the past year received a total of 20 nominations for the 40th Helen Hayes Awards.

ARLINGTON, VA — Productions at the Signature Theatre in Arlington over the past year received a total of 20 nominations for the 40th Helen Hayes Awards, second only to Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.

Nominations in the 41 award categories were announced on Monday. The Helen Hayes Awards ceremony will take place on May 20 at The Anthem in D.C.

Among the Signature Theatre productions to receive nominations were Ragtime (11), Passing Strange (3), Pacific Overtures (1), King of the Yees (3), The Bridges of Madison County (1), and Sweeney Todd (1).

With Arena Stage and the Signature Theatre leading the way with 32 and 20 nominations, respectively, the 1st Stage in Tysons was next with a total of 19 nominations, followed by the Kennedy Center with 18 nominations.

Named for actor Helen Hayes, a D.C. native and legendary first lady of the American theater, the Helen Hayes Awards honor excellence in professional theater throughout the D.C. area.

The Signature Theatre is located at 4200 Campbell Avenue, in the same building as the Shirlington branch of the Arlington Public Library.
