ARLINGTON, VA -- A traffic stop on Interstate 395 in Arlington resulted in weapons charges against a convicted felon, police say.

An officer on routine patrol pulled over a vehicle for a window tint violation at around 8:20 a.m. on April 26 near the Glebe Road exit of I-395 southbound, according to a report from the Arlington County Police Department.

"The driver was issued a warning for the window tint violation," the report states. "During the course of the investigation, the driver was determined to be a violent convicted felon and a subsequent consent search of the vehicle yielded a firearm and ammunition."

Police arrested 46-year-old Franklin Pettiford of D.C. on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. He is being held without bond.
