Ballston Hit-And-Run Suspect Charged With Assaulting Police Officer ACPD
Arlington police arrested a District resident they say fled from a hit-and-run crash in Ballston on Sunday night.

ARLINGTON, VA — A 34-year-old District resident is facing multiple charges, including assault and battery on law enforcement, following a hit-and-run incident that occurred Sunday night in the Ballston area, according to authorities.
Just before 8:30 p.m., officers responded to Wilson Boulevard at North Glebe Road to investigate the report of a hit and run.
"Upon arrival, it was determined the victim was in their vehicle at a red light, when the suspect vehicle allegedly struck the victim from behind and subsequently fled the scene," according to the incident report.

Police broadcast a lookout and the responding officers located the suspect's vehicle in the 1900 block of North George Mason Drive and conducted a traffic stop, according to the report.

"Officers issued commands to which the suspect, who was the driver of the vehicle, ignored," the report said. "As police officers took the suspect into custody, the suspect was combative and struck an officer. Neither the officer nor the driver of the struck vehicle sustained any injuries."
Police told the victim from the stuck vehicle how to obtain warrants from the Office of the Magistrate, according to the report. Police arrested and charged Shawnita Campbell of Washington, D.C., with assault and battery on law enforcement, driving under the influence and refusal of breath/blood test.
