Ballston Homicide Unsolved 5 Years Later; Family Offers $50K Reward

Arlington County Police have yet to arrest a suspect in the 2020 killing of 24-year-old Scott Ratigan in his Ballston apartment.

ARLINGTON, VA — Five years after Scott Ratigan, 24, was killed in his Ballston apartment, Arlington County Police have yet to make an arrest in the case.

In addition, Ratigan’s family is still offering a $50,000 reward to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Ratigan’s death.

Officers dispatched on Jan. 17, 2020, to the 800 block of North Randolph Street for the report of a cardiac arrest found a deceased man inside the residence. A family member had contacted police after finding Ratigan's body in his bedroom suffering from trauma.

An autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, ruled Ratigan's death was a homicide. Investigators also reported finding evidence that someone had attempted to clean the scene of the crime before leaving the apartment.

Investigators recovered a surveillance video from an exterior camera that showed a person of interest leaving the area of the incident. On the one-year anniversary of Ratigan’s death, police released the surveillance video.

Police described the individual as a white man, standing about 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 and weighing 150-175 pounds. He was dressed all in black and carrying a backpack. The suspect walked in a pigeon-toed gait, with his feet turned inward.
