With music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly, the story is centered around a young girl named Matilda Wormwood, who is only five years old and loves nothing more than getting lost in a good book. However, Matilda's family and school constantly put obstacles in her path, trying to hold her back and keep her from reaching her full potential. Through her kindness and determination, Matilda showed everyone around her that anything is possible if you believe in yourself and "you mustn't let a little thing like little stop you."

Anneliese Odegard's interpretation of Matilda was the perfect balance of spunk and sincerity. Odegard showed impressive consistency in Matilda's childlike mannerisms and the British dialect, and thoroughly emulated Matilda's youthful yet mature persona.
Mia Cummings' portrayal of Miss Honey stood out in this production. Cummings' performance was not only vocally unmatched but dazzling to witness. Her angelic vocals and captivating performance during her heart-wrenching rendition of "This Little Girl" couldn't help but bring a warm glow to the audience's hearts.
Additionally, the impeccable physical and vocal versatility of Carson Stadler in the roles of the Escapologist/Bruce was equally as impressive. While playing two starkly different roles, Stadler masterfully executed the contrast between the sprightly cake-loving Bruce and the majestic gentle Escapologist.
Finally, the masterfully detailed and innovative sets and costumes elevated this production and made the show amusing to the audience's eye. The consistency regarding the color of Mrs. Wormwood's eye-catching butterfly clips and the impeccable speed and accuracy of this production's various quick changes adorned the stage and the efforts of Marceline Castrillion, Gisel Bolivar, Adrian Ulm, and Amarica Khlen.
In addition, the strategic placement of the blocks to differentiate differing locations, as designed by Niko Godoy, Jack Ploetz, Kat Larrick, and Issac Souryal, added a nice touch of detail and clarity for the audience.
Wakefield High School's production of Matilda was lively, empowering, and "a little bit naughty."
