Fast Casual Chain to Make Big Push Into Northern Virginia
Northern Virginia company plans to open 10 Mississippi-based Newk's Eatery restaurants in Arlington and Fairfax counties.

Partnering with Northern Virginia-based Red Alpha Holding, Mississippi-based Newk's Eatery plans to open 10 restaurants in Arlington and Fairfax counties in the next six years, the companies announced this week.
Red Alpha Holding has been successful in opening Five Guys, according to the announcement, and will now turn its attention to opening Newk's Eatery restaurants.
The actual sites for the restaurants in Arlington and Fairfax counties have not yet been identified, according to spokeswoman Sara Hundley of SPM Communications.

"Red Alpha Holding is based in Northern Virginia and has the operational experience and commitment to excellence that makes them an ideal partner as we grow into this market," said Newk's Chief Development Officer Chris Cheek, in the announcement. "Virginia is an important bridge territory between our North Carolina and Maryland franchisees, and we are confident the Red Alpha team will successfully introduce our brand to diners here."

Now in its 12th year of business, the Jackson, Miss.-based Newk's serves made-from-scratch sandwiches, salads, soups and artisan pizzas using fresh ingredients, accompanied by a what they call a "unique level of service and Southern hospitality."
"Newk's open kitchens, commitment to quality ingredients and ongoing innovation make it a perfect option for Northern Virginia's discerning customer base," said John Nguyen of Red Alpha Holding. "With aggressive expansion plans, a growing brand presence and a new design, the chain is quickly becoming a sought-after brand for customers, franchisees and landlords."
Red Alpha Holding is the third multi-unit franchisee to sign with Newk's in 2016. Combined, the new franchisees will open more than 30 new restaurants in the next four years, consistent with Newk's goal to reach 200 units by 2019.
