Fatality Confirmed in Garage Fire

Police are handling the investigation now.

Update 10:30 a.m.

A female in her late 70s drove a vehicle into the parking garage between 900 and 950 N. Stafford St. in Ballston and struck a gas line in the garage around 8:30 this morning. A fire was ignited in the garage. The accident was fatal. Police have not released the identity of the woman and are in the process of contacting her family.

"At this point it appears to be accidental," said Arlington County Police Detective Crystal Nosal. There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances, she said.

Arlington County Police Detective Crystal Nosal confirmed to Patch that one fatality has been reported after a vehicle caught fire at a Ballston parking garage, located at 950 N. Stafford St. below the Hilton Hotel, on Wednesday morning.
