Gunshots, Damage In Arlington Neighborhoods Investigated: Police

ARLINGTON, VA — Police responded to multiple reports of gunshots over the New Year’s weekend in Arlington, with property damage reported in the two of the incidents, according to the Arlington County Police Department.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday, police were dispatched to the 1500 block of 11th Street South in the Arlington View neighborhood for a report of shots fired. The victims were inside their home when they heard what appeared to be gunshots, police said.

Officers found evidence of shots fired, including damage to the window and a wall inside the residence. A vehicle outside the home also was damaged by gunshots, police said.

No injuries were reported in the incident. Police said they do not have a description of the suspect or suspects.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, police were dispatched to the 500 block of S. Veitch Street in the Penrose neighborhood of Arlington for a report of suspicious circumstances.

Police learned that the victim had returned home after an extended absence and noticed damage to a bedroom. Officers found evidence that a gun had been fired and found damage to the ceiling of the bedroom.

Police said they do not have any suspects in the Penrose neighborhood shooting.

Also on Sunday, police were dispatched to the 1400 block of 28th Street South in the Arlington Ridge neighborhood for reports of shots heard.

Officers recovered evidence confirming shots had been fired in the area. No injuries or property damage was reported, police said. The police do have a suspect in the incident.

In another incident, police learned of a gun brandishing Saturday afternoon near the Lyon Village shopping center in Arlington. The victim told police that he and the suspect got into an argument. The suspect then pulled out a gun. The victim was safely able to leave the scene and contact police. No injuries were reported, police said.

The suspect is described as a medium-build white male with black and gray neck-length hair wearing a black coat, according to police.
