High-Speed Chase Suspect Abandons Car, Caught in Arlington: Police

The suspect was caught not far from where he abandoned the car Wednesday morning, according to Virginia State Police.

ARLINGTON, VA — A suspect is in custody after police ended a high-speed chase over concerns for other motorists and pedestrians in Arlington. The car was later found abandoned, but the suspect didn't get far, according to Virginia State Police.

At 8:30 a.m., a state trooper initiated a traffic stop of a gray Ford Focus heading east on Interstate 66 near mile marker 72 and the Lincoln Street overpass, according to police spokesperson Corinne Geller.

"The vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated," she said in a statement. "The Ford Focus took Exit 73 and due to its reckless driving and speed, the trooper discontinued the pursuit for the safety of other motorists and pedestrians."
