Press Release: EcoAction Arlington

ARLINGTON, VA — “The new EcoAmbassadors program will accelerate opportunities for local residents to increase awareness about everyday activities they can do in their own homes that will make a tangible difference in our communities,” said Elenor Hodges, EcoAction Arlington Executive Director.

Interested candidates who are passionate about helping neighbors and their communities to commit to personal stewardship of our environment are encouraged to apply. The EcoAmbassadors Program will provide training on successful community engagement techniques to promote everyday actions that can save energy, create healthier spaces, and reduce environmental footprints. The EcoAmbassadors program is managed by EcoAction Arlington and the Virginia Cooperative Extension; Applications are currently being accepted for the 5-week training program starting October 1.

The EcoAmbassadors training is centered on the City of Alexandria Energy and Climate Change Action Plan and Arlington’s Community Energy Plan and related climate strategies. Specific focus areas include reducing energy use and electrifying the home, shifting to eco-friendly transportation choices, and minimizing waste. The program is jointly funded by the City of Alexandria and Arlington County.

The program is an evolution of the award-winning Energy Masters Program that helped neighbors conserve energy and water in their homes. Modeled after the Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Masters program and building on the 14-year legacy of Energy Masters program, volunteers will make an annual service commitment after completing training and will participate in outreach activities with neighbors and the community to include community outreach/tabling, presentations at civic and community organizations, interactions with schools, and door-to-door dissemination of information.
