Majority Of Residents Want More Protected Bike Lanes: Survey

A survey conducted by Mobility Lab and BikeArlington found a majority of Arlington residents want more protected bike lanes in the county.

ARLINGTON, VA — An "overwhelming majority" of Arlington County residents want more protected bike lanes throughout the area, according to a survey released recently by Mobility Lab and BikeArlington.

The survey showed 89 percent of respondents said they would like to bike more often, and 62 percent reported that more separated bikes lanes would help them get there. The survey is part of Arlington County's outreach process for updated the Bike Element of its 2008 Master Transportation Plan. It was administrated at a series of pop-up events, large community events like the Arlington County Fair and promoted online.

Respondents were asked what type of rider they are, what type of trips they make, how comfortable they feel on different types of bike lanes and trails and what ways the county could encourage them to choose to bike more often, according to a news release.
