Malicious Wounding Charge Filed Against Arlington Man: Police
Arlington County Police arrested a 26-year-old Arlington man in connection to an assault that occurred Monday night in Buckingham.

ARLINGTON, VA — A 26-year-old Arlington man is facing multiple charges, including aggravated malicious wounding, after assaulting a female acquaintance on Monday night, according to Arlington County Police.
Officers responded to the Virginia Hospital Center around 7:01 a.m. to investigate the report of an assault.
The victim told police that she was walking in the area of 2nd Street N. at N. Glebe Road, when a man she knew shoved her to the ground and assaulted her. The man then ran off. The victim made it to the hospital on her own, where she was treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to authorities.

After identifying Elder Perez Vasquez as a suspect in the case, police arrested him at his home, which was located in the 100 block of N. Thomas Street in the Buckingham neighborhood. Facing aggravated malicious wounding and strangulation charges, Vasquez was held without bond.
Vasquez has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 26 in Arlington Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court, according to court records.

The Code of Virginia lists strangulation as a Class 6 felony, which has a potential penalty of one to five years in prison or up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500. Aggravated malicious wounding is a Class 2 felony. If convicted, Vasquez faces a potential sentence of 20 years to life in prison, a fine of up to $100,000, or both.
