Machete-Wielding Man Faces Possible Jail Time Following Virginia Square Arrest

Arlington County Police arrested a man who they say waved a machete at a woman he followed into a Virginia Square residential building.

ARLINGTON, VA — A 33-year-old Arlington man with a machete was arrested Sunday morning after he followed a woman into a residential building in Virginia Square, according to police.

Arlington County Police officers responded around 11:58 a.m. for the report of a suspicious person with a knife at a residence in the 3400 block of Washington Boulevard. The woman told police that after she alerted a building employee about the man who was following her, the suspect waved the machete at her and left.

Searching nearby, the officers located a man matching the description of the suspect in the area of Washington Boulevard and North Kirkwood Road, according to police.

The officers arrested Batbold Saikhanbayar and charged him with brandishing a machete and carrying a concealed weapon. He was then held without bond.

Saikhanbaya was arraigned on Monday morning in Arlington County District Court and is due back in court on Tuesday for a bond hearing, according to court documents. He has a June 30 preliminary hearing.

Both charges are class 1 misdemeanors, so Saikhanbaya faces a potential penalty of 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500 on each charge, according to the Code of Virginia.
