Arlington Civil Rights Icon Honored By VA General Assembly

The Virginia General Assembly adopted a resolution honoring Joan Trumpauer Mulholland for her efforts to integrate businesses in Arlington and her work with the Freedom Riders who traveled to Mississippi and other states during the height of the civil rights movement in the 1960s.

3 Alexandria High School Wrestlers Participate In State Championship

Three wrestlers from Alexandria City High School participated in the state championship last weekend. The three wrestlers were part of the Virginia High School League Wrestling State Championship, which drew participants from around Virginia. Senior Calvin Wiedemer placed third, while senior Bassem Sliti and sophomore Juelz Peters each won a match.

Meatball-Inspired Tournament Hosted By Alexandria Restaurant

Meatball Madness returns to Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood as Lena's Wood-Fired Pizza & Tap plans its second annual meatball tournament. The event on Saturday, March 11 is held in recognition of National Meatball Day, as well as the kickoff to the March Madness college basketball tournament.

Jeni's In Shirlington To Offer Free Ice Cream Scoops At Grand Opening

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is holding a grand opening celebration for its new shop in Arlington on March 8. The grand opening will take place on Wednesday, March 8 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Customers will get free scoops of ice cream during the celebration. Also, the first 50 people in line will get extra goodies from Jeni’s.

Cargo Of Cats From Kuwait Arrive For NoVA Rescues Via Dulles Airport

Volunteers from several Northern Virginia animal rescue groups showed up at Washington Dulles International Airport last week to pick up 89 cats that had been rescued from the streets of Kuwait.
