ARLINGTON, VA -- A motorcyclist has passed away after a crash on Interstate 395 in Arlington early Tuesday morning.

Virginia State Police were called to the Exit 8A ramp of northbound I-395 at around 1:58 .m. to a report of a single-vehicle crash, according to a report from VSP.

"Based on witness accounts, a motorcycle was traveling north on I-395 at a high rate of speed when it ran off the left side of the highway and struck the cement Jersey wall," the report states. "The motorcycle then crossed over all northbound lanes of I-395 and continued off the right side of the interstate at the Exit 8A ramp. The motorcycle struck the guardrail and its rider was ejected."

The motorcycle caught fire after the impact. The operator of the motorcycle was declared dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified as police attempt to locate and notify next of kin.
