NoVA Weather Flips From Frigid To Spring This Week

Highs close to 70 degrees are expected in NoVA and DC, with days of rain drenching parts of the state this week. Here's the latest forecast.

VIRGINIA — Another winter storm will hit Northern Virginia by Tuesday night, but instead of snow it will bring six days of rain for the Baltimore-DC region and an unseasonably warm weekend with high temperatures approaching 70 degrees late this week.

The state has already started to thaw out Monday, according to the National Weather Service, with temperatures in the upper-30s expected after a weekend of overnight temperatures in the teens and low 20s.

“A chilly & icy start this morning, with temperatures in the single digits and low teens. Warmer temps are on the way with highs this afternoon in the upper 30s & low 40s. Rain returns midweek with highs in the 50s & 60s,” the National Weather Service Baltimore-DC office said in a statement Monday.

Forecasters said rain is set to drench the state starting Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with rain expected daily through Sunday.

Temperatures will reach 38 degrees Monday, climb into the 40s for highs Tuesday and Wednesday, hit 61 on Thursday and creep close to 70 degrees by Friday, the NWS said.

AccuWeather meteorologists note the greatest concern for the week will be for travelers in the Northeast, with any moisture from fog or rain capable of causing sheets of clear ice to develop.

“The icy mixture can result in slippery roads and sidewalks, travel disruptions and power outages across the region,” AccuWeather meteorologists wrote.
