Open Rat Bait Box, Mouse Droppings Found At Arlington Restaurant
An uncovered rat bait box could allow rodents to spread poison around the entire restaurant, an Arlington health inspector warned.
ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Public Health Department inspectors found health code violations at 19 food establishments they reported visiting on July 14-15.
While visiting the Subway fast-food restaurant at 4817 Langston Blvd. on July 14, an inspector observed an open rodent bait and mouse droppings on the kitchen floor.
"Rodent bait shall be contained in a covered, tamper-resistant bait station," the inspector wrote in their report. "Open bait stations may result in the spillage of the poison being used. Also, it is easier for pests to transport the potentially toxic bait throughout the establishment. Consequently, the bait may end up on food-contact surfaces and ultimately in the food being prepared or served."

The inspector also told the person in charge that insects and other pests are capable of transmitting disease to humans by contaminating food and food-contact surfaces. Effective measures needed to be taken to eliminate their presence in food establishments.
