Storm Knocks Out Power Monday to Thousands Across Northern Virginia

Parts of Fairfax County, Fairfax City, Falls Church, Alexandria, Arlington were without power Monday after thunderstorms rumbled through.

Thousands were without power Monday afternoon after a series of powerful thunderstorms and high winds swept through the region.

By midnight, power had been restored to more than 11,000 homes but about 800 were still without power in Fairfax and Loudoun counties.

Winds were clocked during Monday's storm between 40 to 60 MPH. Temperatures dropped from the mid-90s to the mid-70s, according to several weather reports.

In all, as of about 5:20 p.m. Monday, there were 12,024 homes without power across Northern Virginia, according to Dominion Power.
