Suspect Faces Charges After Shoplifting Incident in Bailey's Crossroads: Police
Police say a store employee called police after observing suspect place objects in backpack.
FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Police say a young man is facing charges after police say they found stolen items in a backpack Sunday afternoon after he left a store in the Bailey's Crossroads area. Police say they were called at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday to a store in the 5700 block of Leesburg Pike (see map below), where officers responded to a report of an apparent grand larceny. A store employee told police he had observed the young man concealing merchandise in his backpack, according to police. Police did not identify the store.
While the patrol officer waited outside the business to speak to the suspect, police say the suspect was observed concealing additional merchandise. The officer detained the suspect and located the stolen property, police said. Alec Stewart, 21, of the Alexandria area, was arrested, transported to the adult detention center and charged with grand larceny and possession of burglarious tools, according to police.
