Tornado Watch Issued For NoVA, DC

WASHINGTON — A tornado watch has been issued for Washington and parts of Virginia and Maryland, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch was issued around 2:30 p.m. Sunday and will remain in effect until 10 p.m.

"A couple tornadoes" were possible, according to the weather service, as was "isolated hail up to ping pong size" and "scattered gusts up to 65 mph."

"There is some question as to whether the strongest storms, with the greatest potential for severe winds and tornadoes, will make it into the immediate D.C. area, or will be focused more to the south and west," The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang said.

"An isolated tornado or two is possible mainly south & east of DC," the service said in a social media post on Sunday morning on its Baltimore-Washington account.
