What's Open, Closed On MLK Jr. Day 2023 In Arlington

ARLINGTON, VA — Residents and businesses in Arlington will honor the life and legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, Jan. 16.
As a federal holiday, MLK Day could also affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation and other services in Arlington.
Arlington County's 2023 MLK Tribute will be held on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. at the Washington-Liberty High School auditorium at 1301 N Stafford St. in Arlington. The event will focus on King’s visit to Arlington before the March on Washington in 1963. Encore Stage & Studio, under the direction of Madaline Y. Langston, will produce the program.

YMCA Arlington is holding a food drive in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. in partnership with the Catholic Charities’ St. Lucy Food Project. Residents can donate food in person in the YMCA lobby at 3422 13th St N. in Arlington, or use this Amazon wishlist.

Arlington County government offices: Closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Arlington Public Schools: Closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Courts: The Arlington Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16.
Parking: Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign. Meters are not enforced on holidays.
Libraries: Arlington Public Libraries will be closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Trash Pickup & Recycling:
- Recycling/Trash/Organics Curbside Routes: Regular collection on Monday, Jan. 16.
- Special Collections (brush, metal, E-waste): Regular collection on Monday, Jan. 16.
- Mulch Delivery: None on Monday, Jan. 16.
- Customer Contact Center: Closed Monday, Jan. 16.
- Household Hazards/Electronics Drop-Off Facility: Closed Monday, Jan. 16.
- Earth Products Drop-off Yard: Closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Post offices: Closed Monday, Jan. 16.
Metrorail: On Monday, Jan. 16, Metrorail will run regular scheduled weekday service.
Metrobus: On Monday, Jan. 16, Metrobus will operate on a Saturday supplemental schedule.
ART Bus: ART 41, 42, 45, 51, 55 and 87 will operate on Saturday schedules on Monday, Jan. 16. All other ART routes will not operate. The ART Customer Call Center will be closed.
Parks & Recreation Facilities & Programs: All community centers, administrative offices and classes are closed Monday, Jan. 16. League members should check with their leagues on schedules. The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center is closed Monday, Jan. 16. Parks in Arlington will be open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Animal Welfare League of Arlington: Closed Monday, Jan. 16. The Arlington County Animal Control team can be reached for emergencies at 703-931-9241.
Sheriff's Office: Administrative Offices closed on Monday, Jan. 16. Fingerprinting for the public and county employees are open Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. See detention center visiting hours.
