What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving 2024 In Arlington

ARLINGTON, VA — Thanksgiving Day falls on Thursday, Nov. 28 this year, bringing a holiday break for students and employees.

Government offices, schools and some businesses will close for the holiday observance. Many government offices and services will also be closed on Friday, Nov. 29 for Black Friday, making it a four-day weekend.

Here are all the openings and closings to know around Arlington for Thanksgiving on Nov. 28 and Black Friday on Nov. 29.

Arlington County government offices and services: Operating on a modified schedlue Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29. All governent offices are closed on Thanksgiving, Nov. 28.

Arlington Public Schools: Schools are closed Nov. 28-29.

Courts: The Arlington Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court will close at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 27 and will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov 29.

Parking: Permit parking is always in effect unless specifically noted on the sign. Meters are not enforced on holidays.

Libraries: Closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29.

Trash Pickup & Recycling: No collection Thursday. Thursday routes run on Friday, Nov. 29; Friday routes run on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Leaf Collection: No collections on Thursday, Nov. 28.

Special Collections (brush, metal e-waste): No collection Thursday.

Post offices: Closed on Thursday, Nov. 28.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV customer service centers are typically closed on Thanksgiving.

Parks & Recreation Facilities & Programs: All Community Centers are closed on Thanksgiving. The Long Bridge Aquatics & Fitness Center will be closed on Thursday. It will reopen on Friday, Nov. 24 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parks will be open.

Animal Welfare League of Arlington: AWLA will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29.
