Winter Storm Causes Arlington County Parks & Rec To Change Hours
Arlington County Parks & Recreation facilities will be operating under an adjusted schedule on Saturday due to the impending winter storm.
ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County Parks and Recreation facilities and nature centers will open on 10 a.m., on Saturday. The shift in hours is due to the impending winter storm that is expected to roll into the area on Friday night.
In addition, programming at joint use community centers adjacent to schools will be canceled and the buildings will be closed. See full list here.
On Friday morning, the U.S. Park Service announced that it would beclosing all northbound lanes of the George Washington Parkway at 7 p.m. on Friday due to the storm.

All northbound lanes between Spout Run in Arlington and the Capital Beltway/I-495 in McLean will close at 7 p.m. on Friday and will remain closed until further notice. The park service will issue a follow-up alert once the northbound lanes of the parkway reopen.
National Weather Service issued a winter storm advisory for the Northern Virginia-Washington, D.C., region from 11 p.m. on Friday to 7 a.m. on Saturday. Heavy snow is expected, with accumulations of up to 4 to 6 inches in some areas.

Portions of western and northwestern Virginia, eastern West Virginia and western Maryland will endure the brunt of the storm, according to the NWS forecast. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible for a few hours on Friday night.
The following information was released by Arlington County around 4 p.m. on Friday:
All Enjoy Arlington, private swim, 55+ classes and trips, therapeutic recreation programs, Nature and History programs, sports activities, leagues, facility rentals and instructional programs with a start time before 10 a.m. in all DPR buildings, fields and facilities are canceled. All scheduled programming beginning at 10 a.m. or after will proceed as normal unless otherwise stated.
Any impacts to programs at Arlington County community centers, parks, or facilities will be communicated directly to program participants via email.
