ARLINGTON, VA -- A 72-year-old woman died in the incident Sunday when a car plunged into the Potomac River near Roosevelt Island and disappeared, according to a report.

NBC Washington reports that Barbara Bushkin was found dead on Monday inside of her SUV that had become submerged.

The woman had recently published a book with her husband about their love story, which began in high school and took a 45-year hiatus before they found each other again.

Initially, rescue crews were unable to locate the vehicle after it disappeared from view in the water. They responded after getting a 911 call that an SUV had crashed into the river.

NBC Washington reports that divers finally found the SUV by 6 p.m. on Monday.
