Animal Rescue Awarded $5,000 Grant For Work With Senior Dogs
Friends of Homeless Animals, a rescue organization based in Aldie, received a $5,000 grant to support their work with senior dogs.
ALDIE, VA — The Friends of Homeless Animals organization, an Aldie-based animal shelter, received a $5,000 grant from the Grey Muzzle Foundation. The grant will support the shelter's efforts to house and support senior dogs and help them find their forever homes.
Friends of Homeless Animals was one of 77 animal welfare groups that received grants to help dogs aged 8 or older. In total, the Grey Muzzle Foundation awarded more than $616,000 in grants.
Stacey Gimbert is the president of Friends of Homeless Animals. "This $5000 grant will help us expand our current Senior Care Plan designed to encourage the adoption of dogs over 8 years of age," Gimbert said. "We can now intake more senior dogs and ensure they have a chance at a forever home."

Grey Muzzle Organization is a national non-profit, but their grants go to community shelters to help animals at the local level. Over the past 13 years, the organization has provided more than $3 million in grants.

"Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’re delighted to help deserving organizations like Friends of Homeless Animals make a difference in the lives of dogs and people in their communities,” said Lisa Lunghofer, Grey Muzzle Organization's Executive Director. "Many senior dogs in Virginia are enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to the wonderful work of FOHA."
Friends of Homeless Animals have a number of dogs available for adoption now. A full list of adoptable dogs can be seen on their website.
"Dogs like Oscar, an 11 year old Redbone Coonhound and Peanut, a 14 year old Parson Russell Terrier mix deserve a chance to find a family," Gimbert said.
