A high schooler from Ashburn has received recognition from friends and family members as he balances straight A's with volunteer work.

ASHBURN, VA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.
This submission comes from Anne Sathuluri. who nominated Abhiram of Ashburn. Sathuluri was one of several Patch readers who nominated Abhiram.

How do you know the star local student?
He was my neighbor and I know his family from at least 10 years.
Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?
Abhi is a sophomore (10th grade). He’s on junior varsity debate team, played basketball, does competitive swim and third degree black belters in taekwondo. He also teaches little kids taekwondo once a week. On top of scoring A grades in Thomas Jefferson School for Science and Technology, he also volunteers atleast 4 to 5 hrs of time every week to rescue food from Panera bread and crumbl cookies and take all the food to local shelters or shelters in DC. He has been helping his mom since he was 7 years old whenever she volunteers at shelters packing food and delivering food. He loves cooking so much, he cooks hot food once every month and take it to local homeless shelters and loves to serve the food to the people. This academic year alone he volunteered 75 hrs already & working towards 100+ hours by the end of school year. He recently raised $900 in the form of gift cards for Embry Rucker (Cornerstones) homeless shelter residents for Christmas.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?
Abhi is a hardworking, gentle, and kind hearted student who always tries to find a way to help others in need.
Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future,Abhiram Dodla!
