LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Eleanore Towe, a former Democratic Loudoun County Board of Supervisors member and vice chair, died on Aug. 25 at age 87 at her Round Hill home.
Towe served two terms on the Board of Supervisors. First elected in 1995, she served on what was then the Blue Ridge District, which was eliminated with 2022 redistricting. Towe was reelected in 1999 and served as vice chair during her second term.
Loudoun County officials are remembering Towe's service to the county.

"The Board of Supervisors is saddened to hear the news of Supervisor Towe’s passing," said Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall in a statement. "She was a staunch public servant and leader whose impact in the Loudoun community will continue for years to come."
The county government noted Towe entered politics through her involvement in her home of Round Hill. Concerns about rapid development in the 1990s led her to help found the Round Hill Area Citizen’s Association.

According to her obituary, Towe's work on the Board of Supervisors included helping to create 28 schools, creating Franklin Park and protecting rural western Loudoun County. The 2001 adoption of the county's revised comprehensive plan aimed to support reasonable residential growth and protect rural areas, the environment and historical features. She was a lifelong League of Women Voters member and volunteered with the Loudoun Literacy Council.
"While I did not personally know Eleanor, I thank her for being a fierce protector and advocate for Western Loudoun," said Little River District Supervisor Laura TeKrony in a statement. "It is with great respect and admiration that I pass on my condolences to her family and friends."
Towe was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jame Towe. She is survived by her children and grandchildren. Her family will hold a celebration of her life at a later time.
