Pedestrian Fatally Hit By Loudoun School Vehicle Identified
A pedestrian fatally hit by a Loudoun schools maintenance vehicle has been identified by the sheriff as a 20-year-old Ashburn woman.

ASHBURN, VA — A pedestrian fatally hit by a Loudoun schools maintenance vehicle has been identified by authorities as a 20-year-old Ashburn woman. Calina Yu was pronounced dead at the scene, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said.
The driver, an employee of Loudoun County Public Schools, struck Yu while driving a school district maintenance vehicle and remained at the accident scene to speak with detectives, according to a news release.

The sheriff’s office is investigating the fatal crash that occurred about 9:13 a.m. at the intersection of Claiborne Parkway and Portsmouth Boulevard in Ashburn.
The Loudoun Times-Mirror earlier reported a girl who attended Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn was killed in the mishap.

Stone Bridge High School Principal Timothy J. Flynn said in a statement to parents that all after-school activities on Tuesday were canceled because of the student's death, the Times-Mirror said.
"It is with deep sadness that we share that the Stone Bridge student who was struck by a vehicle near the school this morning has passed away," Flynn said. "As you can imagine, we are heartbroken by this loss. A traumatic event such as this can evoke a wide range of emotions, and we know that the Loudoun County community joins us in grieving alongside the student's family. We are sharing this information so parents and caregivers are aware and may speak with their children in the way they feel is most appropriate."
Flynn said mental health professionals would be at the school to offer help to staff members and students.
